Macha (pronounced with a silent 'c') is a jewelry brand which focuses on developing unique conceptual ideas, and translates them into wearable forms. Initially conceived by Irish designer Bernice Kelly in 2008, and realized in London the next year, the brand now operates from Brooklyn New York.
Pieces are traditionally handcrafted, and often have a laid back, rock n roll inspired feel, replacing the notion that jewelry should be flash and polished. Many items are designed to be worn by either men or women. New techniques are introduced on a seasonal basis, producing an eclectic and constantly re-invented line.
The successful Rockwell Line evolved organically from an accidental piece, rough nuggets are displayed in custom made settings with a subtlety that develops into classic forms with the passing of time. The Fine Jewelry and Wedding lines mirror this sentiment, using deliberately weathered pieces that inspire freedom and remove the reverence that surrounds the buying of that special piece. Pieces can be custom made in any karat gold or platinum and personally inscribed.
The attainable Date Letter collection glorifies the British hallmark, wearing the traditional fineness mark as a prominent feature which guarantees purity. Each item is also marked with an official 'Date Letter' which is only available during the year it was made, thus becoming more rare year by year. Classic signets rings, ingot necklaces and tiny beaten bangles are produced in the series, all in both sterling silver and 10k yellow gold.
For AW10, Macha launched a fashion line with the rawness of character of previous concepts. Inspired by a love of vintage clothing and it's imperfections, disorderly yarns and fibres are captured through a unique series of processes and formed into distinctive sculptural rings and bangles, all in gold and silver plate. Textures offer a contrast to sharp geometric forms in four finger rings and earrings.
Macha encourages one to one online interaction with clients, producing their individual variations on a theme. Clients can browse products at the online store, find a product they like and click on 'ask a question' to start a discussion based on a product they find interesting. When the idea is agreed, a 'listing' is created in the Bespoke section of the online store for them to purchase. These discussions lead to an ever evolving line which is in tune with customers needs. Collaborations are also opened to artists of other mediums, in turn inspiring new collections.
Every Macha piece is honestly produced with commitment to authenticity, using only the finest quality metals, and upholding our belief in fair business practice with our partners and clients. The collaborative nature of the brand led by a director with over 10 years design experience, ensures an innovative product, which is hosted in an inspiring environment.
Products are available for purchase at the online store, and at select concept stores internationally.
‘...Macha is about a quiet rebellion, not necessarily‘beautiful’, but not without nobility either, rough and warm-hearted and full of ripe character. It‘s witty, tenacious and defiant with an air of old fashioned peace...'.
